Qui-gon and Obi-wan have returned to the Jedi Temple of Coruscant to deal with the threat there.  Another mystery novel for this series, but it’s done better than the earlier attempt.  (Well, this time, instead of being too vague, it is perhaps too obvious, but to a young reader, it is probably appropriate.)

Obi-wan is trying to rejoin the Jedi Order after rashly leaving it, and is subjected to punishment by both the Jedi Council and his former Master.  But while Obi-wan can’t see it, Qui-gon’s heart quickly softens – he’s only waiting for the right moment to take Obi-wan back as his Padawan.

During this book, it struck me that perhaps I should aim to write books for young readers.  In so many facets of entertainment today, it seems there’s lots of excitement, but no deeper message for kids to take away.  Why can’t we combine meaningful messages with good stories?  Maybe there would be a market in that…  Not that I have any ideas, but it’s something to ponder…

“Do not try to tamp down the fear.  Do not let it grip you.  If you let it move through you, it will leave you.”
- Qui-gon Jinn, p. 84
